Firebush (Hamelia patens) is a fast growing shrub that reaches a height of 8 - 12 feet without support (although nurseries sell a miniature variety that grows to 3'). Evergreen. Produces red/orange flowers throughout the year. Hardy Zones 9 - 11. Can grow in part shade, but will not flower as well as direct sunlight. The flowers and berries attract birds and butterflies. Also known as Firecracker Shrub, Mexican Firebush, Scarlet Bush, and Hummingbird Bush.

In Zone 9 the plant may be killed to the ground during a freeze, but the root system will recover quickly from a frost.
