Geranium pyrenaicum 'Bill Wallis'
If I could design the perfect flower, I’d probably include the requirements for profuse blooms nearly year ’round, easy maintenance and the ability to grow in bright sun or partial shade. I’d then throw in the request that, in the depths of winter when most of the other plants look spent, it should just push out blossoms like it was the middle of summer. It should also be a tough plant that can take abuse and neglect and still keep on smiling. But wait – I’ve already got a ‘Bill Wallis’ Geranium.
This geranium is one of my favorite plants. It goes through a two or three month bloom cycle. When its done, just cut it back and seemingly within days it has a profusion of tiny purple flowers. It has a mounding habit with two foot branches of flowers. It’s ideal for containers and for trailing over rocks. I’ve put it in the corner of my garden where everyone who passes by can see it. That way I know they will always see at least one plant in bloom.
