Nasturtium 'Evelyn'

(5/1/2010) I’m not a big fan of vining Nasturtiums, they’re difficult to control in a small garden like mine. But no one can deny the beauty of a Nasturtium in full bloom. So I tried ‘Evelyn’ from Annie’s Annuals, since it is a mounding variety. I also liked it’s subtle golden color as a pleasant change from the typical bold reds and oranges in most Nasturtiums.

I did have someĀ  problems after I planted it in a container. Without long vines to bear and distribute its weight, the main stem broke off in a heavy wind. No problem. Nasturtiums are tough little plants. The few little shoots that survived quickly took over and the plant has happily rejuvenated.

(5/21/2010) I’ve tried on several occasions to take pictures of this Nasturtium in the bright sunlight and each time the result is washed out. The camera just can’t handle the combination of sunlight and the brilliant colors of the flowers. This morning I came in from a walk and took the photo below before the sun had risen above the trees. What a great way to start the morning.
